So today I had two appointment (I usually try to do one appointment a week). One to check my lungs with a pulmonary function test, and one to educate me on exercising or something.
Pulmonary Function Test
This wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. I assumed it was something where they throw me on a treadmill or exercise bike with a bunch of wires and try to kill me (the bike -was- there, but I wasn’t put on it).
But instead they drew blood from an artery in my wrist (which means just beneath my thumb, and straight down, unlike where they draw blood from your elbow joint sideways. Apparently this is where the best oxygen reading is. Talk about a scary thing to watch!), and then they threw me in a glass box with some breathing apparatus’ in it.
Then I had to do various breathing tests, normal breathing, panting breathing, hold my face with my hands breathing, breathing in and out as hard and fast as I can (and almost knock myself out), breathing and holding my breath, breathing out for as long as I can, etc. It was a weird experience, being suckled onto this contraption and making myself dizzy, but it was fairly easy.
And that was it. She said my lungs looked fine/normal. I have to go to my official “lung doctor” next week to “go over the results”. I hate those kinds of appointments.
Exercise Class
I was sorta dreading this too because the secretary woman of the surgeon’s office is so ridiculously retarded at explaining anything, so I didn’t know what to expect. But not only was I the only one that showed up (private tutoring ftw), but the lady was really awesome. She was amazingly understanding, well-spoken, and really knew her stuff. She mainly wanted to focus on resistance training, gave me a free band, went over a few exercises to try and do several times a week, and that was it.
Her boyfriend lives in Fairfield, so she knows the area I live in. She’s also a personal trainer, and I loved her personality so much I kinda want to look into speaking with her on a regular basis once I’m out of debt. I dunno, we’ll see. She was the former nutritionist at the surgeon’s office, (I recall I got the new girl as her first patient, and wasn’t too thrilled about that), so she could possibly talk with me about both nutrition and exercise.
So all and all, a good day of appointments, and more stuff checked off on my list.
